All students in the M.Div. program are required to complete three full units of supervised Theological Field Education (TFE-E: Exploration; TFE-P: Leadership in Practice and TFE-FC: Leadership in Faith Community). Students in the MA-PPL program are required to complete two full units of field education (TFE-E: Exploration; TFE- P: Leadership in Practice). Though mandatory for degree completion, these units are not counted in the credit hour requirement of the degree, nor are students charged tuition for any unit of theological field education. To encourage students not to hold paid employment during TFE programs so that their attention can be focused on the experiential learning experience, a scholarship will be awarded to each student in TFE.
Students should register for TFE when registering for their other courses.
The actual hours spent in TFE units will include (a) the Sunday worship service and preparation for it (if appropriate to the placement), (b) sessions with the student’s mentor, and (c) special projects, meetings or events in which the student is engaged as part of her/her/their learning covenant. Travel to and from the site is not considered part of the actual hours worked.
